Captain Chair no.7

Hand made using traditional techniques & locally sourced New Zealand grown hardwoods to produce a quality product to last a lifetime, while making the smallest footprint as possible.

This is my version of a Captains Chair. I make this chair with either a solid carved timber seat or a strap leather seat made from high grade New Zealand made saddlery leather that is a byproduct of the local meat industry.

Pictured examples are of a combination of White Ash legs, Wych Elm seat, White Oak spindles & a Black Walnut arm bow. This chair won the furniture category in the National Assocation of Woodworkers, Art of Wood Exhibition 2022.

The second example is of a solid Elm chair with a saddlery leather strap seat in natural vegetable tanned leather. The timber finish is naturally derived oil & wax finishes.

As I hand make these chairs, & they are made to order, bespoke dimensions & custom adjustments can be made. I have a range of different timbers available, including Elm, White Ash & Black Walnut, or you may have your own timber you wish to use. Different colours of leather are also available.
