Spade Handle Table
$1,290.00
This coffee table is made from locally sourced wind thrown Elm & two steam bent legs from European White Ash. The tabletop & waterfall leg have been shaped from a single slab of Elm. The top shows the unique grain in each timber slab, no two are alike. This tabletop has had the shrinkage split stabilised using ties inspired by New Zealand artist Gordon Walters work cut from Walnut, Beech & London plane.
This coffee table is the result of experimenting to utilise as much of the slab as possible. Turning the slab down & back underneath to form the waterfalled leg allowed the living edge to be maintained for texture.
The two other legs on this table are inspired by traditional steam bent spade handles. These tables are constructed using careful timber selection, not all timber can be steam bent. To construct them I work with the timber from start to finish, this ensures a unique quality product that has a long service life, to continue to sequester carbon for the life of the tables.
The table is finished in naturally derived oil & waxes.
